Galileo Galilei, the pioneer of modern astronomy and physics, (1564-1642), discovered that liquids change density as the temperature increases or decreases. Based on this principle, the colored glass spheres inside the glass Galileo thermometer have been precisely weighted so that they respond to temperature changes. When the temperature rises, the liquid inside the Galileo thermometer becomes less dense and the colored spheres floating inside will sink towards the bottom. When the temperature of the room cools, the process is reversed and the spheres will rise from the bottom.

this was a good gift for my maintenance man at Christmas .  It looks much more than the price was .

I purchased this as a gift to replace one that she had broken.   I set it out beside mine for several days and they always showed same temp.    The previous one did not had a wood stand.  I feel this may make it less likely to get knocked over.  Would recommend .

Great Gift!

This barometer is child-friendly and since it was invented by Galileo gives a great history lesson as observed. It would be nice if it had a children's book about Galileo  packaged with it.

Really enjoy this thermometer. It is a good conversation piece. I like to check it out from time to time. It is accurate enough for a "toy". Mine seems to have a problem with the "72" indicator as it doesn't seem to like to move. but who cares!!

you cannot really tell what the temperature is, if you want a tube with floating balls in it then this is for you but expect nothing more from it
